What did Mistral announce with NVIDIA for AI in engineering?

Mistral says it is collaborating with NVIDIA to build AI-native engineering workflows, combining Mistral Large 4 with NVIDIA's accelerated computing, CUDA-X libraries, Warp and Omniverse. The companies will create public benchmarks and open datasets for physics and agentic AI in computer-aided engineering, targeting aerospace, automotive and semiconductor use cases.

Claves

  • Mistral says it is working with NVIDIA to combine Mistral Large 4, its data generation and physics modeling pipelines with NVIDIA CUDA-X libraries and NVIDIA Warp to speed up engineering simulation.
  • The two companies plan to integrate Mistral's models with NVIDIA Omniverse libraries for GPU-accelerated 3D scene generation and SimReady asset creation.
  • Mistral and NVIDIA say they will develop public benchmarks and open datasets for evaluating physics models and separate benchmarks for agentic AI in computer-aided engineering and electronic design automation, covering aerospace, automotive and semiconductor use cases.
  • Mistral says the agentic benchmarks will measure an agent's ability to use engineering tools, complete multistep workflows, produce technically correct results, execution time and computational cost.
  • The companies previously co-developed Mistral NeMo and are now working through the NVIDIA Nemotron Coalition on a frontier base model, while Mistral says it recently introduced a public preview of Mistral Large 4, trained on 3,800 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs in Mistral-operated European data centers, with weights planned for release at the end of October.

Mistral AI said it is collaborating with NVIDIA to develop a new generation of AI-native engineering workflows built on NVIDIA's accelerated computing stack.

What was announced

According to Mistral, the companies will combine Mistral Large 4 with Mistral's data generation and physics modeling pipelines, accelerated by NVIDIA CUDA-X libraries and NVIDIA Warp. Mistral says the goal is to speed up engineering simulation and enable closed-loop workflows linking simulation, AI model development and engineering design.

Mistral and NVIDIA will also integrate Mistral's models with NVIDIA Omniverse libraries for GPU-accelerated 3D scene generation and SimReady asset creation, the company said.

Benchmarks and open datasets

Mistral said a central focus of the collaboration is building public benchmarks and open datasets for evaluating physics models. The company said these are intended to give researchers, developers and industrial teams a shared foundation for comparing model accuracy and performance and for building and validating automated CAD-to-simulation workflows.

Beyond physics AI, Mistral said it and NVIDIA will develop dedicated evaluations and benchmarks for agentic AI in computer-aided engineering (CAE) and electronic design automation (EDA), aimed at aerospace, automotive and semiconductor use cases. According to Mistral, these benchmarks will assess an agent's ability to use engineering tools, complete multistep workflows and produce technically correct results, while measuring execution time and computational cost.

Background on the partnership

Mistral said the industrial engineering work builds on an existing partnership with NVIDIA that spans open model development, domain-specific AI and production infrastructure. The companies previously co-developed Mistral NeMo and are now working together through the NVIDIA Nemotron Coalition to develop a frontier base model, which Mistral said is intended to advance the open weight frontier and let developers and enterprises specialize AI for their industries, languages and regions.

Mistral also noted it recently introduced a public preview of Mistral Large 4, known as Le Chonk, described as its largest and most capable frontier model to date, with approximately 1 trillion total parameters and 49 billion active parameters. The company said the multimodal model was trained on 3,800 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs in Mistral-operated data centers in Europe, with weights planned for release at the end of October.

Mistral said it is also bringing additional NVIDIA-powered AI infrastructure online as part of a compute roadmap targeting 1 GW of capacity by 2030.
