Anthropic Launches Claude for Life Sciences

Anthropic announced Claude for Life Sciences, a set of product updates the company says are designed to let its Claude models support scientific work across the full research pipeline, from early discovery through translation and commercialization. Anthropic said scientists had previously used Claude mainly for individual tasks such as writing statistical analysis code or summarizing papers, and that its goal now is broader support across research, clinical and regulatory work.

Model performance

Anthropic said its Claude Sonnet 4.5 model performs better than earlier versions on life sciences tasks. On Protocol QA, a benchmark the company says tests understanding of laboratory protocols, Anthropic reported a Sonnet 4.5 score of 0.83, compared with a human baseline of 0.79 and a Claude Sonnet 4 score of 0.74, using a multiple-choice format with 10-shot prompting. The company said this score is detailed in its Sonnet 4.5 system card. Anthropic also said Sonnet 4.5 showed a similar improvement over its predecessor on BixBench, which it described as an evaluation of bioinformatics task performance.

New connectors

Anthropic said it is adding six new connectors linking Claude to scientific platforms: Benchling, which the company says lets Claude answer questions with links back to source experiments, notebooks and records; BioRender, for access to a library of scientific figures, icons and templates; PubMed, for biomedical research articles and clinical studies; Scholar Gateway, developed by Wiley, for peer-reviewed scientific content; Synapse.org, for sharing and analyzing data; and 10x Genomics, for single-cell and spatial analysis in natural language. Anthropic said these join existing connectors including Google Workspace, Microsoft SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, Teams, Databricks and Snowflake.

Agent Skills and prompt library

Anthropic said it released Agent Skills, folders of instructions, scripts and resources that Claude can use for specific tasks, the week before this announcement. The company said it is developing scientific skills, starting with single-cell-rna-qc, which performs quality control and filtering on single-cell RNA sequencing data using what Anthropic described as scverse best practices. Anthropic said scientists can also build their own custom skills. The company said it is creating a prompt library intended to help scientists get started with tasks such as literature reviews, protocol generation, bioinformatics analysis, and regulatory compliance work.

Support and partnerships

Anthropic said it is providing hands-on support from subject matter experts on its Applied AI and customer-facing teams, and is partnering with Caylent, Deloitte, Accenture, KPMG, PwC, Quantium, Slalom, Tribe AI and Turing, along with cloud partners AWS and Google Cloud, to help organizations adopt AI for life sciences work. The company published statements from customers and partners including Sanofi, Benchling, the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, 10x Genomics, Genmab, Komodo Health, Novo Nordisk, Stanford University, PwC, Schrödinger, Latch Bio, EvolutionaryScale, Manifold, FutureHouse and Axiom Bio describing their use of Claude.

Availability

Anthropic said it also supports life sciences research through its AI for Science program, which provides free API credits to researchers working on what the company calls high-impact scientific projects, and that it continues to accept submissions for project ideas. The company said Claude for Life Sciences is available through Claude.com and the AWS Marketplace, with availability on the Google Cloud Marketplace coming soon.
