Anthropic Launches Claude Corps Fellowship for Nonprofits

Anthropic launches national fellowship pairing young workers with nonprofits

Anthropic announced Claude Corps, a national fellowship program that will train 1,000 early-career fellows to use Claude and place them for a year, full-time and in-person, at nonprofit organizations across the United States. The company said it is committing an initial $150 million to the program.

According to Anthropic, the program has two goals: equipping host organizations with AI tools and systems, and helping fellows build AI skills for their careers. Anthropic said companies building AI technology have a responsibility to invest directly in workers affected by the change, and that Claude Corps is being announced alongside the company's policy framework for addressing AI's impact on work.

How the program is structured

Claude Corps is run as a partnership among three organizations, according to Anthropic. Anthropic will fund the program, lead its strategy, and provide Claude expertise. CodePath, described by Anthropic as its nonprofit partner and the country's largest provider of collegiate computer science education, will serve as the fellows' official employer of record and lead programming during the fellowship. Social Finance, a nonprofit and registered investment advisor, will lead measurement and evaluation and build a longer-term financial vehicle intended to let the program scale.

Each fellowship runs 12 months. Anthropic said it and CodePath will provide intensive initial training on using Claude in nonprofit settings, followed by five hours of ongoing training per week after fellows are placed, with the rest of their time spent at their host organization.

Fellows will receive a full-time salary of $85,000 plus benefits, a CodePath mentor, office hours with Anthropic for technical questions, a Claude token budget, and guidance from a manager at their host organization, according to the announcement.

Host organizations and eligibility

Anthropic said at least 400 nonprofits will host Claude Corps fellows over the next 12 months. Named host organizations include Braven in Chicago, Code the Dream in Durham, North Carolina, Heartland Forward in Bentonville, Arkansas, Montgomery County Food Bank in Conroe, Texas, Team Red, White & Blue in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, the Reef Environmental Education Foundation in Key Largo, Florida, SoundOff in San Antonio, StriveTogether in Cincinnati, and the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.

StriveTogether CEO Jennifer Blatz said the Claude Corps fellow would let her organization "do analysis to connect the dots at a pace that was unimaginable in the past." Montgomery County Food Bank CEO Scott Burns said the program "applies AI talent where it makes an immediate difference, from understanding donors and distribution forecasting to turning data into faster decisions for families."

Applications for the first cohort of 100 fellows are open now and close July 17, with the cohort starting in October 2026. Two additional cohorts will begin in January 2027 and August 2027, with rolling applications. Anthropic said applicants must be over 18, have fewer than two years of full-time work experience, be authorized to work in the U.S., be comfortable working with Claude, and be willing to relocate if necessary; relocation support is available. Host organization applications are also open for all cohort start dates.

Anthropic said its ambition is to scale the program beyond 1,000 fellows, that it will measure how host organizations' missions advance and how fellows' skills and career prospects develop, and that it plans to open-source some of the underlying technology and infrastructure so others can build similar initiatives. The company also said it would like to build a model that could be replicated in other countries outside the U.S.
