Deployment in Rwanda
The Rwandan government will enable AI training for up to 2,000 teachers and a group of civil servants. According to Anthropic, participants will gain hands-on experience using Claude in classroom instruction, lesson planning and daily work.
Graduates of the Rwanda pilot will receive one year of access to Claude tools. Anthropic said that access will include Claude Pro for individuals and Claude Code for developer teams in government. The partners will also explore Claude for Education with university educators.
Rwanda is connecting the initiative to its Vision 2050 strategy, which places youth and technology within the country’s plans for national development. ICT & Innovation Minister Paula Ingabire said the collaboration would allow Rwanda to explore AI tools for learning, educator support, developer capabilities and digital assistance in selected institutions. She said those areas remained under review.
Anthropic’s head of Beneficial Deployments, Elizabeth Kelly, said the partnership combines teacher training, policymaker involvement and a dedicated working group. She said Anthropic is working with Rwanda and ALX to learn how AI can address local educational needs while reaching students at scale.
Chidi through ALX programs
ALX is deploying Chidi across its technology training programs in Africa. Anthropic said the provider reaches more than 200,000 students and young professionals, all of whom will receive access to Claude through Chidi.
Chidi will operate as what Anthropic described as a “Socratic mentor.” It will guide learners through questions instead of giving them direct answers. The company said this approach is intended to help students develop independent problem-solving skills while learning to use AI tools.
Anthropic also reported early usage figures following Chidi’s rollout on November 4. Learners had participated in more than 1,100 conversations and nearly 4,000 learning sessions, according to the company. Nine out of ten users reported positive experiences. Anthropic said students were using Chidi for coding challenges, data science concepts and problem-solving practice.
ALX founder and CEO Fred Swaniker said the tool changes how students develop their capabilities, confidence and careers.

Anthropic said the partnership follows other education initiatives involving Claude. The company cited a national AI education pilot with Iceland’s Ministry of Education and Children, access to Claude for Education for all students at the London School of Economics, and work supporting developers and startups in India alongside a planned Bengaluru office.
