Mistral AI and Cloudera announced a partnership on September 10, 2026, to integrate Mistral's AI models with Cloudera's hybrid data platform, targeting enterprises in regulated industries that want to deploy AI without giving up control of their data.
What the companies announced
Mistral said the partnership covers two main capabilities. First, enterprises will be able to run inference using Mistral's models inside Cloudera's hybrid data platform, across private cloud, public cloud, on-prem, and fully air-gapped environments, while keeping control of that infrastructure. Second, Mistral said enterprises will be able to build custom models by training on their own proprietary data within controlled environments, keeping ownership over both the data and the resulting AI models.
Mistral framed the deal as a response to enterprise customers, particularly in financial services, manufacturing, and telecommunications, who already use Cloudera's platform to manage data across on-premises and cloud systems and want to apply AI to what the company called mission-critical processes.

Abhas Ricky, Cloudera's Chief Business Officer and GM of Applied AI, said in the announcement that "every enterprise is heading toward the same destination: specialized intelligence," and that general-purpose models are a starting point rather than an endpoint. He said the partnership lets customers turn proprietary data, which he described as including loan decisions, production runs, and network telemetry, into intelligence they own and govern within their own environment.

How Mistral defines sovereign AI
In the announcement, Mistral described the collaboration as meeting demand for what it calls sovereign AI, meaning data, intelligence, compute, and operations remain under a customer's control. Per Mistral, this includes keeping data within customer-defined boundaries, adapting and owning models built on open weights, running training and inference on infrastructure and in jurisdictions the customer selects, and deploying, governing, and improving AI systems over time without handing control of the learning process to an outside platform.
